Newbury tips: Zavateri fancied to strike in Greenham Stakes on Saturday

The Weekend Winners panel return to preview a big day of racing from Newbury, headlined by the Group 3 Greenham Stakes.

A field of eight have assembled for the seven-furlong contest, headed at the time of writing by the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained Zavateri and Aidan O'Brien's Albert Einstein.

Running in the same colours as Aidan O'Brien's charge is Title Role while Alparslan, Gonna Fly and Needle Match also feature.

"This is a really fascinating race on paper. The favourite [Zavateri] really hated Newmarket, and he will love getting back onto straight track. It's not a given he is going to train on either, given his size and pedigree. I am going to take him on.

"I'm siding with Alparslan, who has a bit to find with Zavateri on his run in the Dewhurst. He drifted to a massive price that day, which means something must have been off. There doesn't look like there is much pace in the race and he could get an easy lead and dominate."

"I am with Zavateri, who won the National Stakes last season and doesn't have Group 1 penalty for that win here - which is a big positive. He needs to underperform massively here if he's to be beaten today.

"There are so many question marks with other runners such as Albert Einstein and Title Role, so for that reason I am sticking with the class angle - who I thought should be a lot shorter than his current price."

"It's Needle Match for me, who doesn't really fit the profile of recent winners. However, his trainer has made some comments that he has got some good three-year-olds this season and this guy could be one of them.

"He won on soft ground at Newbury but I don't think quicker ground will be an issue on pedigree. He has to take a massive step forward on that effort but he's a decent price to do that. Take nothing away from the favourite who has the form standard, but I want to take him on in his seasonal reappearance."
